Shelby Hall is the University of Alabama’s larges academic building. The 200,000-plus square foot hall was named after U.S. Senator Richard Shelby and his wife, Dr. Annette N. Shelby. It’s one of the nation’s most sophisticated campus science buildings with over 77 labs, 3 theater-styled lecture halls, 120 offices, and an on-site glass blowing facility. Delta Fountains worked with the design team to manufacture the $1.75 million dollar fountain in the quad outside Shelby Hall.
The fountain was part of a series of upgrades that included a pedestrian walkway and new energy efficient lighting. The fountain’s circular-basin sits in the middle of the quad. Ten arching adjustable aerating foam jet nozzles line the inside of the basin, surrounding a single 8-foot tall geyser in the middle of the circle. To keep the powerful water streams from splashing water out of the pool, Delta custom-fabricated a wave suppression baffle to calm the water’s surface.
