The Dolphin Sculpture fountain is a fully animated feature with programming that allows for an enormous variety of displays, making it a definite crowd pleaser. The fountain, located on the tip of Island Park at Marina Jack in Sarasota, Florida, was a gift of appreciation to the city from the owner of the Marina Jack Restaurant.
The fountain’s animation is run by a programmable logic controller. Separated into five zones for programming purposes, the fountain’s design incorporates five, three-inch National Pipe Thread (NPT) smooth bore pod jets that reach heights of up to 40 feet, and 16 two-inch NPT perimeter smooth bore nozzles that arch towards the center of the fountain, mimicking the natural arch of the dolphins form as they frolic in the waters of Sarasota Bay.
The lighting and mechanical workings of the fountain are synchronized through a series of various programs. This fountain has dramatic lighting that uses more than 8,000 watts of illumination.
