Halifax Health Medical Center’s France Tower memorial statue and fountain honors the “Queen of NASCAR” and the center’s largest supporter, Betty Jane France. Mrs. France’s sole contributions to the medical center has helped build the 32-bed, racing-themed children’s unit called Speediatrics and France Tower. The sculpture that sits in the middle of the memorial fountain was sculpted by artist, John Lajba. Lajba spent one year on the bronze piece.
Delta Fountains worked with Zev Cohen, who designed the tower’s Plaza, to design and equip the memorial fountain. The fountain consists of a classic, granite linear basin on either side of the statue. Eight geyser nozzles and lights line each of the basins for a symmetrical aesthetic. A statue of Betty Jane France sits in the middle of the two linear pools.
