250 W. 55th St. Water Curtain

New York, NY

The award-winning 250 West 55th Street Water Curtain is located in the entrance lobby of a 660-foot office building in New York City. This high precision water curtain consists of 4 stainless steel mesh panels, approximately 21 feet tall and 7 feet wide, each. There are several industrial adjustable springs on each panel that tighten the material to over 3000 pounds of tension, forcing the water to cling to the surface of the mesh. Above each unit is an engineered headwater trough, containing baffles, screens and other devices that enable the water to become as laminar as possible, before joining its’ respective panel. Water quality is also important with this type of feature, so the make up water was treated with chemicals, ozone and a cation resin, before entering each trough.
