Jacksonville, FL
Delta Fountains received the opportunity to help create a new playground and splash pad at a YMCA in Jacksonville, FL. The Brooks YMCA had fitness facilities, a pool, sports fields and activities for most of its members but still needed a safe space for their smallest members to play, outside. A fence was provided for the playground, from a friend of the YMCA and then the fundraising began. Delta’s president, Joe Petry, is an active member of the YMCA, and has spoken at national YMCA conferences. When he heard about the Branch’s need for a playground, he jumped at the chance to be involved. The Brooks YMCA is where his children and grandchildren are members. After generous donations of time and funding from many sources, the youngest Brooks YMCA members got their playground in spring of 2017. The playground was named Mia’s Place, in honor of one of Joe’s granddaughters.
Delta Fountains donated the splash pad nozzles, equipment and controls to the project. The splash pad is a simple, colored concrete deck with nine bronze ground effects nozzles and an activation bollard in the YMCA’s signature Fuchsia. The ground effects nozzles are programmed via a logic controller, which can choreograph water shows, by manipulating the various zones of spray. The children can control the on/off function of the water spray. Plastic zoning buffers act as a barrier to the fountain.
