The Pentagon Memorial honors those whose life’s were lost on September 11, 2001. The two-acre site includes 184 named memorial benches, one for each victim, positioned according to an age line marked with the victims’ birth years. A shallow lighted pool of flowing water is positioned under each memorial bench.
To monitor and manage the water level, pressure and flow of the individual reflecting pools, a custom controller was needed that could be integrated with existing management systems. In addition, the project required a chemical feed system and a method to sanitize the water. All of the work on the memorial had strict deadlines and a non-negotiable completion date, due to the collaboration and joint effort between many participating architects, contractors and vendors.
Delta Fountains provided the electrical controls and panels to house a Programmable Logic Controller, which was designed and programmed to integrate with the Pentagon’s building management system. The design of the controller allowed for monitoring and control of all the functions of the lighted reflecting pools. We supplied all display and filter pumps and water quality components, including an intricate chemical feed system, custom fabricated gauge panels, and an Ultra Violet Sanitation System – all within the established time frames.
